Audition Notice: Chemical Imbalance

AUDITION NOTICE

“Chemical Imbalance – A Jekyll and Hyde Play”  is a two act contemporary horror farce that is a comic/evil adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.  The play focuses on the bloody experiments of the chemically imbalanced Mr.  Hyde.  No one is safe from his devious mind, not even the family dog.

Auditions will be on Monday and Tuesday, Aug 5 and 6 at 6pm at the Struthers Library Theatre, 302 W. Third Ave., Warren, PA.

Callbacks will be Thursday, Aug at 6 pm.

Characters:

  • Dr. Henry Jekyll/Mr. Hyde
  • Euphronia Jekyll – his mother
  • Ambrosia Jekyll – his sister
  • Lady Throckmortonshire – a grande dame
  • Calliope and Penelope Throckmortonshire – her twin daughters, aged 9-12
  • Rosamunda Dewthistle – eligible young lady
  • Xavier Utterson – cousin to Jekyll
  • Ivy – maid
  • Plodgett – Scottish cook

Notes:

  • There are a few minor characters that will be doubled by other actors. These have been excluded from the list.
  • The roles of Mrs. Jekyll and Lady Throckmortonshire may be played by men.
  • The role of Plodgett requires a Scottish accent of sorts. Other characters will be English.
  • In one scene, Ivy faints and will be treated like a rag doll whilst unconscious.
  • This play is a fast paced British comedy. Lines must be memorized for quick delivery, and a strong sense of both verbal and physical comedy is necessary.

“Chemical Imbalance: A Jekyll and Hyde Play” will run the weekend of October 10-13.

Nothing needs to be prepared for this audition. Sides will be available, and the audition will consist of some questions and a cold read.
